3 Reasons To Consider Renting A Dumpster For Your Roofing Project

by Bobbie Sanders

Do you have a home with an aging roof? Have you been considering tackling the removal of the old roof and the installation of the new roof on your own? So long as there isn't any underlying structural damage to worry about, reshingling a roof is usually a fairly straightforward process. However, there is one aspect of this project that you may not have given much consideration yet: disposing of the old roofing materials. This is often forgotten, left to the last minute, or viewed as a trivial matter. In fact, there are a number of reasons why you need to give more thought to the prospect of waste disposal. Some of the most important reasons include:

Safety: When adding a new roof to a house, it's not unheard of to simply toss the old shingles, flashing, and other roofing materials to the ground in a pile for them to be disposed of later. But metal flashing and roofing nails contain edges that are sharp and that can be extremely dangerous if a young child should decide to play in the pile. Fortunately, there are dumpsters for rent that solve this issue. Instead of tossing the waste shingles to the ground, they can be thrown into a dumpster that has been dropped off in your driveway. This will remove both the temptation and the ability for any children to explore the pile of old building materials.

Space: When looking at your roof, it's all too easy to underestimate how much space is needed for the temporary storage of the old shingles until they can be properly disposed of. Without the containment offered by dumpsters for rent, the pile of old shingles and other roofing materials may start to spread out and cover a significant portion of your yard unless you expend significant amounts of time and energy trying to neatly stack these bits of garbage.

Time: Although you could, in theory, use your pickup truck or borrow a pickup truck from someone to take the waste to the dump instead of getting any of the dumpsters for rent in your area, this is likely to take more time than it's worth. Even if you live relatively close to the dump in question, each trip could take you hours as you wait in line behind dozens of similarly-minded people. Since each dump often has extremely limited hours, this could mean that it might take you literally weeks of trips in order to fully dispose of everything. Renting a dumpster will allow you to save significant amounts of time when it comes to getting rid of your trash.

About Me

Protecting The Environment

I have always been someone who is happy to help other people, but a few months ago, I realized that there were a few problems with the way that my entire neighborhood was treating the environment. People were more than willing to flush things down the drain and to throw trash in the street, and it really hurt my feelings. I knew that I wanted to do something to make things right, so I began focusing carefully on spreading the word about pollution. I wanted to start a few different programs to make things better, and within a few months they had completely identified and resolved a long list of challenges.
